  HISTORY  iEARN-Sri Lanka

 

iEARN was introduced to Sri Lanka by Radha Blackman (The iEARN program administer) who visited Sri Lanka at the end of the year 1999. She came to Royal College and met the principal and introduced iEARN to the College Afterward she sent Ceila Einhorn from i*EARN-USA to conducted a seminar at Isipathana College ,Colombo which was attend by teachers from Royal College and Isipathana College. Each College was represented by 5 teachers. Ceila Einhorn visited Anuradhapura and introduced i*EARN to schools there.

Mr.Labunahewa from Anuradhapura and S.Dias from Royal college participated at i*EARN programs held in USA. Nandasiri Wanninayake from Anuradhapure participated in the CIVICS workshop in USA-Egypt.

Nilanthi Kurupu and Bernard Jesudhasan from Sri Lanka also represented the pearl of the Indian ocean in CIVICS conference.

Lakshmi Attygalle from Royal College represented Sri Lanka as the coordinator in the next CIVICS workshop in USA.

A team of students from Royal College ,Colombo who were led by Lakshmi Attygalle & Mala Gunawardana represented Sri Lanka for the 7'th i*EARN youth summit held in Beijing, China in July 2000. Then Mr. Deepal from Sri Lanka, participated in the 8’th youth summit which was held in Capetown in 2001. 2002 was a wonderful year again as 10 students team led by iEARN-Sri Lankan coordinator, Lakshmi Attygalle participated in the 9’th annual summit held in Moscow.

After that, Palitha Aluthdunnae and Ranjith Hemchandra participated in CIVICS workshop which was held again in USA.

In 2003 , iEARN-Sri Lanka was represented again by the coordinator her self in Japan.

Students in Sri Lanka had been working for over 20 iEARN projects so far, mainly the fight Child Labour, Vision, Lewin, Aspects of love, Value of money in life, HGP, CIVICS and Laws of live.

Sri Lanka students had been very active in most of the iEARN forums, and their work had been published in many magazines and students had even been editors, international editors and international project coordinators as well.
